Mr. McMahon was the announcer for the first match in the Deadly Game
tournament. He first introduced Mankind, and then had a prepared statement for the
Deranged Ones opponent. Mr.
McMahon said the mystery opponent debuted in the World Wrestling Federation in 1990,
compiling "quite the impressive won-loss record", but was now
coaching an elementary school football team in Pasadena,
CaliforniaDwayne Gill! Mankind finished off the man
who JR called a "perennial preliminary man" in just a
few seconds.
Al Snow and Jeff Jarrett then competed for the right to
face Mankind in the second round. Snow got the win
when he struck Jarrett twice with Head (who was wearing
Mr. Socko).
The Big Boss Man came out next for his match with
Stone Cold Steve Austin. Clearly the Boss Man was not
out to win the match, but to hurt the Rattlesnake. The
match ended when the Boss Man grabbed his nightstick
and bludgeoned Austin. Stone Cold won by
disqualification, but wasnt in the mood to celebrate.
For the right to face Stone Cold Steve Austin in the
quarterfinals, X-Pac took on a "Real Mans Man"
Steven Regal. But the match ended in a double countout,
and to the chagrin of Mr. McMahon, Austin got a bye
into the semifinals.
Another first-round match featured Ken Shamrock
versus Goldust. The Bizarre One had Shamrock set up
for the Shattered Dreams, but the referee stepped in
front. The Worlds Most Dangerous Man then jumped
from the second rope and hit Goldust with a hurricarana,
followed by a belly-to-belly suplex, before slapping on the
ankle-lock submission hold and forcing him to tap out.
In the final first-round match, The Rock was set to face
Triple H. However, Mr. Brisco and Mr. Patterson came
out and said Triple H, who is recovering from major knee
surgery, did not show up. But Mr. McMahon, the stooges
said, had found a "last-minute replacement"the Big
Boss Man! The Rock outsmarted everyone as he
immediately rolled up the Boss Man with an inside cradle
for the win!
The two superstars who had received first-round byes,
the Undertaker and his younger brother Kane, then faced
off in the first quarterfinal match. Kane dropped the
Undertaker with a chokeslam, but Paul Bearer distracted
his son, allowing the Man from the Dark Side to recover
and hit his brother with the Tombstone! Bearer grabbed
Kanes to make sure he couldnt kick out, and the
Undertaker got the win.
Al Snow and Mankind then faced off for the right to take
on Stone Cold Steve Austin in the semifinals. After
planting Snow with a double-arm DDT, Mankind and Mr.
Socko were reunited! The Deranged One finished off Al
with a Socko-assisted Mandible Claw.
The Undertaker awaited the winner of the next match,
The Rock vs. Ken Shamrock. During the bout, the Big
Boss Man came out to ringside. After several near falls,
the Boss Man jumped up on the ring apron, distracted the
referee and threw his nightstick toward Shamrock. But
former University of Miami football star intercepted it,
nailed Shamrock, and got the pin!
The next match was for the Womens Championship as
Sable took on Jacqueline. The referee was Shane
McMahon. The femme fatale hit Jacqueline early in the
match with the TKO, but when she went for the cover
"Marvelous" Marc Mero pulled her off. Sable came out
and nailed Mero with a Sablebomb. Back in the ring,
Jacqueline set up for a tornado DDT, but Sable
countered it by throwing Jacqueline off the top rope!
Then she grabbed Jacqueline and hit her with a
Sablebomb, and covered her for the win!
Mankind then took on a battered Stone Cold Steve
Austin in the first match of the Deadly Game Tournament
semifinals. Just as the bout got underway, Mr. McMahon
and the stooges came down to ringside. It was a
back-and-forth match, but when Austin hit Mankind with
the stunner, Mr. McMahon grabbed the referee and
dragged him out of the ring. The Rattlesnake hit the
Deranged One with another stunner, and Shane
McMahon came out, counted to two, but then refused to
count to three! He flipped the Rattlesnake the bird! The
stooges came into the ring and nailed Austin with a chair,
then Shane came back in the ring and counted to three as
Mankind covered Austin. Just as the match ended, Mr.
McMahon and all the stooges ran straight to the
limousine and drove away. The Rattlesnake
commandeered a truck and chased right after them!
With the crowd still in shock, the Undertaker faced The
Rock for the right to advance to the finals and take on
Mankind. It was thought that the Big Boss Man had left
in the limousine with Mr. McMahon, but the Boss Man
came down to ringside during the match. Later, Kane
came down to the ring and chokeslammed The Rock! The
referee called for a disqualification, and awarded the
match to The Rock! The Undertaker was irate, and after
pummeling the referee, he went after his younger
brother.
Before Mankind and The Rock battled to crown a new
World Wrestling Federation Champion, the New Age
Outlaws, the Headbangers and DLo Brown and Mark
Henry battled in a Triple Threat Match for the Tag Team
Championship. The match was full of high-impact
maneuversthe Road Dog being the brunt of many of
those moves. Finally the Road Dog tagged Billy Gunn,
who cleaned house. Eventually all six men battled in and
out of the ring, an Billy Gunn nailed one of the
Headbangers with a piledriver and covered him for the
pin!
Finally it was time to crown a new World Wrestling
Federation Champion. Shane and Vince McMahon, who
had returned from the limousine, came down to watch the
match. The Rock and Mankind exchanged shots with the
steel chair, threw each other into the steel steps, and
broke the Spanish announcers table, among other
brutalities. But that was merely the beginning. The Rock
hit the Peoples Elbow, but Mankind kicked out.
Mankind slapped on the Mandible Claw, but The Rock
got up. The Rock hit the Deranged One with the Rock
Bottom, but Mankind kicked out again! Suddenly, The
Rock put Mankind in the
Sharpshooter?!? Mr.
McMahon immediately ordered that the bell to be rung,
and The Rock was awarded the World Wrestling
Federation Championship!
Inside the ring, Shane, Vince and The Rock embraced.
Shane said that the Federation finally had its corporate
champion, but the night was not over yet. Stone Cold
Steve Austin appeared from the back, and went right
after the new champion and the McMahons!
